USAF Pilot Training Class
52-G
Spence AB, GA
|
No class book was prepared by the 52-G students at Spence. The
following text was written by Otha H. "Skeet" Vaughan, Jr. to describe
some of the history:
This information has been developed to provide information to the members of the USAF
52-G Pilot Class who began their initial pilot training at Spence AB, Moultrie,
GA. in October 1951, either as a cadet or a student officer, and completed their training and/or went on to other assignments in the USAF. The training was under a government contract with Hawthorne Aviation of Charleston, S.C. and administered by members of the 3302nd Training Sq. USAF. The training aircraft used was the North American AT-6G for this first phase of the training. After 6 months of ground school and flying training, the students and/or student officers, who had previously attended college and earned their commission through the USAF ROTC program, were then assigned either to fighters, bombers, and/or transport aircraft. After this last phase was completed the cadets became officers and received their pilot wings and the student officers also received their wings. Each person who had now completed their training was then assigned to an operational squadron for further training.
